While taking Dora's dog for a walk the other night we came across a dirty glove in the middle of the street. Of course Tiny thought it necessary to pick it up and bring it home. Usually he buries the mittens he finds in the snow bank on our front lawn, but I guess the snow was too hard to dig through. Anyways, creepy photos. This is what happens when you don't wash, comb or groom your dog at all. not recommended :P
Our horror t-shirt is the most popular design we have. Let me let you in on the story behind it.
During the summer when Dora and I were coming up with ideas for shirts we were looking through her biology books. At the time I was looking for reference for a medical freelance project. Anyways, Dora found a page about hemoglobins and came up with a concept to make a shirt that had a pipe coming from the heart leaking a drop of blood and on the bottom turning into a hemoglobin. To this day I still don't get why she thought that was a good idea. I shot down the idea immediately. For a week she kept bringing up different variations of the same idea, and I kept begging her to give it up. Until one day she turned up with: How about making a blood splatter and within the blood you could make some abstract screaming face? And that's how Of Horror I was created.
April is coming soon....which means new designs! I'm proud to say that next month Akumu Ink will launch 2 new designs and that you'll have trouble choosing between them. Alot of work has gone into creating something completely new and at the same time sticking to our current style. I'd like to present to you one of our more emo shirt designs which is still untitled. More stuff will be posted soon.
With the increasing interest in Akumu Ink's tshirt designs we've decided to help you out when trying to tell your friends about us. Starting from March 16th and on we're printing Akumu Ink on the back bottom of every shirt. It's a little touch we hope you like.
-Joey
P.S.-I'd like to thank my sister for designing such an awesome logo ;)
What is a toe tag? A toe tag is a card with information pertaining to you that is attached to your toe when you are deceased at the morgue. Creepy huh?
When you order from Akumu Ink you will find this grim hand made tag with all of your information written on it.
Lots of changes have been happening recently. I've been trying to update the website, working on new designs for next month (which are looking awesome!), and printing shirts like crazy. Dora and I would like to thank everyone who's been showing an interest in Akumu Ink and telling others about us. It really means alot that you're interested in something different than what's out there already. I will update you with photos in the next couple days as t what's happening with us and our new changes. I haven't had time to update this blog, but keep checking back this week because there will be alot going on ;)
Come join us on Facebook and be a part of the 'FAN PHOTOS' section. Show off your new Akumu Ink tshirt by adding your own photo to the section. If you can't add it yourself just email or send me the link and I'll be more than happy to add you myself. Below are a few fans showing of their Akumu's.
Btw, thanks to Hide Your Arms for giving us such a huge photo-filled feature! And the compliments are very flattering, let's hope we will not disappoint with future designs.
So you might be wondering: what's new with Akumu Ink? Joey is working on upcoming designs and Dora is doing a great job at promoting our shirts to various websites and blogs. We're currently up on Etsy, and we're trying to get onto Google Base, which was once Froogle.
We are also collaborating with Montreal's local band Explode and Rebuild to make unique t-shirts for them as well. We'll be selling those shirts through Akumu Ink when we are done.
It's been very rare to find one good movie that kept my attention all the way through recently, but last night we saw two awesome movies. We started off with The Darjeeling Limited, which is a Wes Anderson film. I've never been a fan of his movies, my friends were but I don't like to hop onto things just because everyone else thinks it's cool. For some reason I never got into the whole Royal Tenenbaums, Life Aquatic thing. So I was quite reluctant about this one, but I'm a big fan of Adrien Brody so I gave this movie a chance. And to my amazement I really enjoyed the journey. It was like I took a vacation from my life and joined them in theirs.
The second movie we watched was Tekkon Kinkreet. I'm a fan of 3D movies since I am a 3D illustrator and this one blew my away. The style is awesome and I love how they kept this very loose hand drawn 2D feel while incorporating the digital 3D realm. There was soo much depth to this anime, it felt like I was looking into a world as opposed to a flat screen with a cartoon playing on it. The choice of pastel colours is so gorgeous. It's everything I would like to do if I made a cartoon movie, except mine would be a little darker ;)
Dora and I attended a really good concert Monday night. A small little venue on McGill's campus called Gert's where they had a handful of bands play for free. It was nice to be back in a small concert setting. There's just something awesome about being right in there with the band and 50 other people. It was fun once we got in, due to Dora not bringing her ID and the bouncer not letting her in....
Anyways At Hand which was the band I was there to see and to cheer on did a great job. I had been working with them doing illustrations and graphic design work for them over the last 4 years, and have also been in a band for a while with drummer Marc. So back to At Hand's performance, although their set lasted about 25min incorporating only 4 songs, they were really strong and definitely showed off that they have talent. Each member is a skilled musician and it shows. I had a great time and so did Dora.
Below I'm posting a video of one of At Hand's songs which was preceded by a shout out to Akumu Ink which was very much appreciated. Marc was styling the lovely 'Of Horror I' tshirt, and Vince (the singer of At Hand) did a wonderful job of announcing us and we really thank him for that. Please check out the video and please check them out on myspace as well as their website. More videos can be found here and here. Thanks guys!
So a new month is here which means new designs. It's awesome to see that our website has something new on it after I've been working on it for the last 3 months. Dora and I feel very accomplished and very thankful to the warm welcome we received from our first collection. We'd like to thank last months gorgeous models: Azad, Joannie, Susan and Jason. As well as this months equally attractive models: Sukhjina, Meghan and Drew. Anyways, here's a photo of this months new screens which will print your shirts.
